Destination Weddings – our favourite spots!

Coastal view of South Africa

The opportunities are endless when you opt for a destination wedding – you can choose from a beach wedding, a winter wonderland, a lavish castle wedding, a romantic vineyard, stunning views, city chic…the list goes on!

We’ve put together some of our favourite places to tie the knot to give you a little inspiration.

Italy

Italian riviera

Thanks to its beautiful architecture, historic cities, lavish furniture and amazing food and drink, Italy is a firm favourite with soon-to-weds. You can choose from ancient ruins in Rome, magnificent art in Florence, Venice’s famous canals or the castles and vineyards of Tuscany.

Planning a legal ceremony here can be a bit tricky – expect a ton of paperwork and more than a few conversations with the local mayor – but it’ll all be worth it when you get hitched in one of the most romantic places in Europe.

Where to tie the knot:

Tuscany: Castello di Modanella – a breathtaking 12th Century castle overlooking vineyards and countryside.

Florence: Villa La Vedetta – a luxurious villa nestled on the hillside with panoramic views of the city.

Venice: Ca’Sagredo – a 5* hotel with views of the Grand Canal and a lavish interior that has to be seen to be believed.

France

Castle in France

Known for romance and fine wine (and champagne, of course!), France often sits at the top of any destination wedding wishlist. You’re truly spoilt for choice here with an abundance of amazing chateaux, vineyards and, last but certainly not least, arguably the most romantic capital city in the world.

It’s worth noting that religious ceremonies are not legally binding in France. So, if you want a religious ceremony, you’ll need to have your civil ceremony first.

Pertuis: Chateau Val Joanis – a stunning castle surrounded by vineyards and forests in the South of France.

Paris: Shangri La Hotel – a private terrace with amazing views of the Eiffel Tower. Need we say more?

Caribbean

Caribbean Beach

For guaranteed sun and amazing beaches, look no further than the Caribbean. Whether you choose to get hitched in Barbados, Jamaica or Antigua – you’ll have so many incredible beaches and tropical gardens to choose from. And the best bit? You won’t have to travel far for an awesome honeymoon!

Each island has a different set of legal requirements so make sure you check with the specific island’s tourism board when you’re planning.

New York

New York Taxi

Indulge your inner Carrie and plan the New York wedding of your dreams. Whether you want the hustle and bustle of the city or something a little more serene, the Big Apple has it all.

You’ll need to apply for a marriage licence first, then wait just 24 hours for it to process before you can say ‘I do’. So, realistically, you could get everything done in a long weekend – perfect!

Where to tie the knot:

Brooklyn: The River Cafe – panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline? Oh, go on then.

Vegas

The bright lights of Las Vegas

As far as we’re concerned, if you’re getting married in Vegas, you might as well go big or go home! With some of the wackiest venues you could ever imagine, you can create a truly unforgettable day.

Getting married in Sin City couldn’t be easier (we’re looking at you, Britney). You’ll need one form of ID to get a marriage license from the Marriage Bureau and you’re good to go.

Where to tie the knot:

Grand Canyon: take a private helicopter and say ‘I do’ in one of the seven wonders of the world.

On a rollercoaster: New York New York hotel doesn’t have a chapel so they suggest getting hitched at 67 mph instead!

At a KISS-themed mini golf course: Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino – we couldn’t even make this up!

Iceland

The Northern Lights in Iceland

Hot springs, glaciers, the Northern Lights, volcanoes, waterfalls, geysers and snow. Iceland truly is epic. If you don’t mind unpredictable weather but want a magical adventure, Iceland should be at the top of your list.

To get married here, you’ll need a marriage license application from the District Magistrate of Reykjavik. This must be mailed back and scheduled to arrive a fortnight before your wedding.

Where to tie the knot:

Hotel Budir – say your vows whilst overlooking the beautiful Snaefellsjokull glacier and the Budir-estuary.

Hotel Ranga – a four star resort perfectly located to enjoy the incredible glaciers and waterfalls on the south coast.

Hotel Glymur – just a short drive from Reykjavik and boasts spectacular views of Whale fjord.
